Confidential Information
Confidential Information is salient, private, business-related information shared with another party. Few people really understand confidential information or appreciate the impact such information has on an enterprise; particularly when it's lost or stolen. Confidential information is the lifeblood of many companies. For such companies, the sanctity of confidential information is the only thing preventing advantaging them over competitors. The challenge, of course, is that people do not lock confidential information away in a safe and protect it with armed guards. Instead, confidential information is everywhere. It's in computer hard drives, jump drives, emails, filing cabinets, and even the heads of employees all over the world. Hence, risks of unintended or unlawful disclosures are everywhere. Employees failing to understand confidential information or their obligations to protect those secrets immeasurably increases such risks.
